redman photo 115 fb kids fav scarf vert headshotI’m over at Jaunty Quills today, talking about all the great advice I’ve received…but didn’t take.

I might even be complaining, just a little, about all the great advice I’ve given that got ignored. 😉

I hope you can join me over there and tell me what the best advice you ever got was. Now that I’m not a kid anymore, I’m absolutely willing to listen!

betting on cowboy box of booksAlso, I’ll be giving away a book to one lucky poster, so if you haven’t read BETTING ON THE COWBOY yet, this is a great chance to win a copy! If you’ve already read it, you can pick another title! You can even put your “win” in a savings account, if you’d like to wait for the newest Bell River book, THE RANCH SHE LEFT BEHIND. It’ll be out in December!

Hope to see you over at JAUNTY QUILLS!

Big blue monsterThis is my official “start panicking” day. I leave for RWA, the national Romance Writers of America conference, on Wednesday, and, as always, I’m NOT READY.

Not even close.

Why?

I’ve known for months that I was going. Back when I signed up, I was so excited. This time, I told myself, I’d be super pro-active, super organized. I’d exercise and diet and get a great haircut and make promotional materials. I’d email all my long-distance writing buddies and make plans to meet. I’d buy fabulous clothes and shoes and costume jewelry. I’d be waaay ahead on my deadlines. I even thought I’d clean my office and house, grow long fingernails, and learn to dance.

Did I do any of that?

Of course not.

Especially the shopping. Truth is, I’m positively terrified by conference shopping. All that pressure. All that money. All those decisions.

Just yesterday I was at the mall for hours and hours, trying to make up for lost time, and ended up leaving with nothing, practically shaking from the chaos and stress of trying to decide which purse went with which dress, and whether I had the perfect earrings for everything.

Ordinarily I just give a raspberry to anyone who doesn’t like it. I am a dedicated walker, and I don’t intend to let anything get in the way of that. I’ll be looping my neighborhood and walking trails when I’m a hundred and fifty, so take that, genetic doom!

But at conference time, when everyone is buying “cute” shoes, I hate my comfortable ones. HATE them. I spend hours cruising the shoe department, picking up shiny ones, glittery ones, colorful ones, spiky ones, wedgy ones, rhinestoned ones, strappy ones, flowery ones…and then putting them back down with a sigh, remembering my mother’s miserable hammer toes.

(Hey…here’s a coincidence! Check out the cute shoe-shopping blog from Mia Marlowe at the Jaunty Quills today. She hates shoe shopping, too, but even she has found an adorable pair for conference!!!)

How about you? Where do you stand on the Great Shoe Question?

Do you own any darling shoes that are ALSO comfortable?

Any suggestions for me?  I leave for the mall in about an hour… 🙂

fireworks postcardHappy Fourth of July, everyone! I hope your plans are either super exciting or super relaxing, depending on what your heart craves today!

Over at Jaunty Quills this morning, I’m blogging about seizing the day–about grabbing a joy and cherishing it, even if you know it can’t possibly last. Would you do that? Or would you rather play it safe, and avoid the heartache of losing the joy later?beach postcard 2

I hope you can stop by and tell me what you think.

One poster will win a copy of BETTING THE COWBOY! So if you can hop out of the pool long enough to check out the blog, I’d love to see you there!

Meanwhile, be careful when you light those candles…brief or otherwise! 🙂

Tiara

Such exciting news! I’ve just been named Queen of the Universe!!! Well, okay, not quite, but it feels that way! As of today, I’m officially the newest member of the fantastic group of writers who blog together as the Jaunty Quills!

I love, love these authors, and I was so proud to be invited to join their site! It’s been so hard not to shout it from the rooftops! happy computer

I am lucky enough to know a few of them personally. Nancy Robards Thompson, who writes such sparkling, sexy stories for Harlequin Special Edition, is one of my critique partners. Katherine Garbera, whose fun, sensual Desire titles you probably already love, is a longtime friend and such a sweetie that I even forgive her for getting to live in England. Cindy Kirk, who also writes fabulous love stories for Special Edition, is a newer friend who feels like an old one.

The six other authors I technically know only by their brilliant reputations–although their warm, wise blog posts make me feel as if I really know them even better.

redman photo 115 fb kids fav scarf vert headshot Of course, I’ll still be blogging here whenever there’s something special to share, but I’ll spend a lot of time over at the Jaunty Quills. I hope you’ll stop by and say hello. It’s a fabulous place to hang out with some of the best names in the industry and make friends with friendly, talented people who love to chat about reading and writing, pets and children, trips and TV, unicorn dreams, pine nuts, Pinterest, and even freaky frogs. It’s more fun than you ought to be able to have online…and you can win give-aways, too! Hope to see you there!
